I think one of the most annoying (and trying) parts of any big project is managing disappointment; you will have dreams, thoughts, ideas, whatever that just don't pan out. It could be a timeline thing (i.e. we wanted x thing done by x time, but because of x reasons, it's not.) or it could be a design thing (i.e. we wanted x color item in x room, but because of x reasons, we can't.) Whatever the situation, you've got to take a breath, step back, and move on. You'll make yourself crazy if you don't.
Every time, it's going to feel like a punch in the gut or a crushing weight on your shoulders–you've just got to tell yourself that it's going to pass and it's going to get better. Really. It is.
Obviously, these types of things just don't matter in the grand scheme of life...but they still get to me because I'm emotionally invested in the property. I guess what I'm saying here is: make sure you prioritize your financial investment over your emotional investment and you'll be just fine.

Lets talk about the kitchen cabinets.
My contractor bought them when they went on sale. Awesome. He got a great deal. Down side? They are ugly as all hell. I would not want to live with them. And they totally don't work with the paint colors I picked out. Am I sad? Yes. If you've ever been inside the house we live in, you'll know that interior design is something I take pretty seriously. Are we going to get different cabinets? Nope. These fit in our budget and they will work just fine. Will it hurt my soul a little every time I look at them? Yup. But I seriously can't spend time worrying about it and need to focus on more important stuff. The bathroom.
I wanted to have the house set up as a 2-bedroom with a relatively large bathroom. However, we can sell it for more as a 3-bedroom with a smaller (functional) bathroom–were I the one moving in, I'd be really unhappy with this set up. But, it's better for us (at the end of the day) to go with the 3-bedroom / smaller bathroom configuration, so we are. I think I'm most sad about it because it changes a layout that I really liked. I've had to tell myself (a number of times), "you're not going to live here."Obviously, these types of things just don't matter in the grand scheme of life...but they still get to me because I'm emotionally invested in the property.
